Critical Issues in Education

     In this vlog I discuss the importance of educating our teachers on different substances with the focus being on vaping. Vaping has impacted our schools and a lot of educators are not presented with all of the facts on vaping. As a future educator and someone that vapes I want to make sure that all of my students are aware of the different options out there when it comes to vaping. As someone that wants to work in NYC I know that my students will all be able to buy a vape without an ID. There are a lot of places that only care about the money and will sell anything to minors. Vaping is a serious topic for me since I know a lot more than most of the teachers that are currently teaching their students about the dangers of vaping. For the most part I will be talking about my ideal classroom. Since I am going to be an adolescent math teacher I want to hold my students to a higher standard. Personally I do not want my students to use technology. I believe that technology is essential to today's world however, in a math class I believe that it is essential for students to know how to do mental math as well as be able to do computations by hand instead of relying on using technology. We see how people who were able to do all of these higher levels of math by hand in order to help the US government achieve their goals. I looked at the NDAFW's activities to help educate students on substance abuse. Unfortunately there was no clear lesson plan and was more of an outline on how to properly educate students in grades 6 through 12 on different substances and the effects it can have on your body. For the most part the NDAFW wants the students to be able to complete these goals by the end of the lesson "Analyzing and interpreting information, data, and/or evidence, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical thinking, Giving a presentation, Reading comprehension, Writing" (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2020).
